Ethan, an ex-high school football star, is desperate to find identity, sanity, faith and freedom under the gaze of a Wal-Mart mannequin transformed into Jesus on the cross at the 17th hole. Follow Ethan on an insightful, unpredictable and hilarious week as he tries to escape from his religious fanatic mother, a suicidal dishwasher, a pot-smoking cop, a beer-swillin’ good ol’ boy, possibly the love of his life, and of course the J-man himself. Graphic language, some bare flesh and a mannequin that resembles the J-Man himself * Production sponsored by The Lear Family Foundation * StageSceneLA's Best of 2008-09: Director, Comedy (Oanh Nguyen) |

September 25 - October 25 West Coast Premiere Adaptation! The Seagull by Anton Chekhov adapted by Richard Nelson art, sex, and fragile dreams... In a garden by a lake, old friends and family gather to watch the newest theatrical creation of Konstantin, the son of a celebrated actress past her prime. Little does anyone in attendance know that what happens this evening will set off a series of events that will change their lives forever. People will fall in and out of love, people will drink, and people will shoot birds and even themselves. Bear witness to Chekhov’s tragicomedy of life and art that astonished the old century as it heralded the birth of modern drama. Adapted by Richard Nelson, whose dramatic sensibilities were previously brought to the Chance stage with his play Goodnight Children Everywhere, Chekhov’s first major play still resonates today. Along with the themes of fame, sex, love and dysfunctional families, The Seagull is one of the great plays about art. It superbly captures the struggle for new forms, the questionable value of commercial success, as well as the frustrations and fulfilments of creating “true art.” This production is suitable for all ages. * Production sponsored by Anaheim Arts Council and California Arts Council |

December 1-19 Back for its 6th year! The Eight: Reindeer Monologues by Jeff Goode directed by Artistic Director Oanh Nguyen A Chance Un-Holiday Tradition Our favorite team of reindeer still have plenty to say! So much, in fact, that this year's production will incorporate a roster of rotating performers so that you'll never see the same show twice! Accusations, rumors and all-out attacks are flying fast and furious around Santa’s toyshop this holiday season. Go behind the tinsel and hear the truth about Santa straight from the eight reindeer who know him best. When a doe says “No”, she means “No Way, Sucka!” This production contains foul-mouthed reindeer and is definitely not suitable for kids! |
