About Write Stuff!
In this ten session residency, the Chance Theater will partner with arts-passionate educators to lead 11th and 12th grade students through the art of playwriting. Each visit, Chance Theater teaching artists will delve deeper and deeper into the craft of playwriting and cultivate the creation of the students' own ten-minute plays. Sessions are enhanced by visits from dramaturgs, directors, actors, playwrights or our very own Artistic Director, Oanh Nguyen.
Student plays are critiqued and fine-tuned throughout the process, which culminates in the selection of one student's play from each school for professional production at the Chance Theater in our annual Write Stuff! Festival. The winning students will see their play fully realized by the Chance Theater's company of actors, directors and production staff and will have the opportunity to work with a director and dramaturg throughout the rehearsal process before the Write Stuff! Festival.
We hope to go to each school twice in successive years to give the necessary skills and materials to teachers so that they can continue to teach playwriting to their students.
If you are an arts-passionate high school educator and would like to learn more about Write Stuff!, we invite you to contact us regarding an application. Five schools are selected annually to participate and there is a limit of three classes per school.
