Fresh from an amazing season of performances in southern California and across the nation, Broadway Star and winner of 2 IRNE Outstanding Actor Awards for 2009, Eric Kunze (http://www.erickunze.blogspot.com) enters a new venture as Big City Broadway (http://bigcitybroadway.com) produces an avant-garde Broadway compilation style show. Breaking the mold from the traditional, music only Broadway reviews, Kunze and fellow Broadway Star, voice teacher, co-producer Gina (Feliccia) De Luca of San Marcos, have developed a fresh approach towards a review style musical theatre show. “Window Pains” strays far from the stigma of musical theater as sugar coated entertainment and offers windowsill glimpses into the heart of some of Broadway's most meaningful theatrical moments.
Seeking to feature the “meat” of musical theatre’s offerings, Kunze and De Luca chose to focus on selections that require a balance of acting and vocal excellence. “We hope to help patrons reflect on some of our most beloved Broadway memories that will not only move their hearts, but challenge their thinking as well.”, says De Luca, “ We want the theatre going public to experience the depths and heights that this art-form can achieve.”
With that in mind, Kunze and De Luca partnered with Musical Director and Composer John Glaudini of Huntington Beach, CA with staging direction by Choreographer Brent Cannons formerly of the Los Angeles Ballet and Editor's Choice Dance Magazine 2009, to serve up a gourmet musical theatre main course that rivals the best in its genre. Featuring selections from: Saturday in the Park with George, Spring Awakening, Wedding Singer, Little Women, In The Heights, and Rent, "Window Pains" offers something to their audiences that they can sink their teeth into and walk away feeling satisfied.
To help offer up this musical theatre delicacy, Kunze and De Luca have selected a couple of young, next generation Broadway-bound artists to accompany them as servers. Brooke Cannons,(http://brookecannons.com)a San Diego County native and California Conservatory of the Arts’ 2009 “Performer of the Year” award recipient, is joined by Cappie Award winner Armando Gutierrez of Huntington Beach. Cannons and Gutierrez were recently seen playing opposite each other in the Chance Theatre (http://chancetheater.com) West Coast Professional Premiere of Tony Award winning composer Mark Hollman’s new musical “The Girl, The Grouch and The Goat.” Sharing the stage with their mentors De Luca and Kunze, Cannons and Gutierrez are thrilled to be helping break ground with this new approach to musical theatre entertainment.
Renown for their commitment to excellence and their desire to give back to the arts community of their roots, Kunze and De Luca offer a quality product not only to their patrons, but to their colleagues and protégées as well. “Window Pains” is not only a smattering of some of the most memorable moments of musical theatre but it is a glimpse into the hearts of its passionate producers. As audiences join them on their artistic journey through these masterful moments, patrons will soon realize that they are guests at an intimate event, as they are invited to peer into the transparent hearts of the actors through the "Window Pains" of art, love and life's relational struggles and triumphs.
