At the heart of this musical’s breathtaking poetry and subtle theatrical sophistication is a purity and simplicity that transcends cultural barriers. The result is a timeless fable of love that manages to be nostalgic and universal at the same time.
The Fantasticks, freely adapted from Edmond Rostand’s 1894 play Les Romanesques, tells an age-old tale. Its ingredients are simple: a boy, a girl, two parents, and a wall. Its stage is a wooden platform, its scenerty a tattered cardboard moon. Using only these bare ssentials, the author and composer have amanged to bring to life a funny and quite touching story of innocence – and of knowledge.
Produced through special arrangement with Music Theatre International.
